We recently spoke with Steve DePalma, who built the newest and most modern wedding barn in Vermont, The Barn at Smugglers’ Notch. We asked him to describe where some of his client couples come from and to recall one of the more memorable destination weddings they have hosted.

“After purchasing the historic 77 acre Dodge family farm, we designed and built our vision for a more modern wedding barn that fit the vernacular of our naturally beautiful surroundings while including modern amenities for today’s upscale bride looking for a more sophisticated Vermont Wedding Venue. We opened our doors in late July 2016 and immediately had clients from Vermont, Boston, CT, NJ and NYC. At the end of 2016, we finally had time to build a website and we were already booked for 2017 (without a website.) In our first two years, we have booked events for clients from everywhere in the Northeast (VT, Boston, NH, NYC, CT, NJ), Washington DC, Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, Pennsylvania, Seattle, Colorado, San Francisco and Los Angeles. We have even booked a few international couples, including England and Sweden. The best man for the UK groom wound up being a famous actor, Benedict Cumberbatch, who was a childhood friend. Many of these destination clients booked our venue without ever seeing it because they read our reviews, spoke with us and felt a level of trust.”

“While we have had many memorable events, our first very high profile wedding will always be memorable to me. The couple was from NYC and often vacationed in Stowe with their family. This was a large destination event, where the family booked out and closed both Top Notch Resort and Edson Hill. They housed there guests there, but chose to host their reception at our venue, The Barn at Smugglers’ Notch. It was quite an honor to be chosen to host the actual ceremony and reception when they had already booked out two well known, high profile Stowe locations. The event was amazing and was the one that put us on the map as one of the premier wedding venues in Vermont and New England.”
